U21s beat FBT International 3-2
The U21s make it two successive wins with a 3-2 victory over the FBT International Academy
The U21s faced a tough fixture against the FBT International Academy, which had won their opening game 10-0 and where players train full time. The U21s rose to the challenge, delivering a first half of football that was amongst the very best they have produced and which was full of the quick passing, attacking football that makes the side so enjoyable to watch. Midfielders Barnes and Knowles took a grip on midfield allowing Constable to pull the strings and create opportunities for front three Taylor, Bullock and Garnett. Belper had already created numerous chances when Taylor finished from close range and Garnett made it two following a near post run from a corner. Belper should have been out of sight and Constable saw an excellent free kick come down off the bar and out. The game started to look different when a failure to deal with a short corner presented FBTIA with a goal and it could have been worse had it not been for an excellent save from Rathbone. The second half was much more even with back four Parker, Broughton, Brumby and Gandola defending well under pressure, however another short corner saw FBTIA level the scores. The game looked like it could go either way but to the U21s credit they found a second wind and began to exert some concerted pressure with a succession of corners. One of these led to a free kick just outside the box and Garnett converted with a fine strike into the bottom corner. Belper held out to record an excellent win achieved with a combination of excellent football and resolute defending.
