Belper Town will be contesting the final of the Belper Nursing Cup, which will take place at the Marston’s Stadium on Monday, 2nd May at 7.30pm.

Belper Town’s under 21s will represent the club for this presigious game and they will face Holbrook Sports after they defeated the Welcome Tavern FC 6-2 in a semi-final tie on Thursday evening.

Holbrook Sports reached the final after beating their own Reserves side at the quarter final stage and then George and Dragon FC in their semi-final tie.

Admission prices for the final are £2 Adults and £1 Concessions.

A raffle will be held on the night to raise funds for local deserving causes.

The Nursing Cup, as it is known locally, was originally instigated back in 1922.

Local teams were invited to compete in this knock-out competition with all the proceeds initially going to the local Belper Nursing Association.

The competition was suspended for many years but was resurrected by local football legend Frank Watson in 1971 and the Cup was located in the vaults of the Derbyshire Football Association.

Frank died in 1998 and the Nursing Cup Committee purchased a shield to be known as the “The Frank Watson Shield, which has been traditionally given as the ‘Man of the Match’ award in the final tie.

The revived competition has been going strong since 1971, with thousands of pounds raised for local charities.
