Peter Duffield launched a stinging attack on his team after the 4-1 defeat at home to Chasetown.

Last Saturday's result saw the Nailers drop from third to seventh in Evo-Stik Division One South.

"The performance from everybody just wasn't good enough," said Duffield.

"Everything about it was awful. We were shambolic. It was unacceptable and we won't stand for it.

"We have been on a good run, so I'm not going to go overboard, but this came as a shock to me after what we've been through.

"We were flat and didn't look interested. When people have paid to watch that, we've short-changed them.

"We can't let it happen again. Hopefully, that thought will spur the players on."

Tomorrow, Belper host 14th-placed Goole, managed by former Ilkeston Town boss David Holdsworth.

That means a swift return to Christchurch Meadow for ex-Nailers defender Richard Adams (pictured), who left the club to join Goole last month.

"We didn't want Richard to go but they offered him an 18-month contract," said Duffield, who was last night closing in on a new signing.

"That's what we're up against in this division.

"We'll welcome him back, because he did well for us and there are no hard feelings.

"After the game, we will wish him all the best but we have a job to do first."

Goalkeeper Scott Low (ankle) could return, while striker Jon Froggatt is hoping to shake off a knock.
