Belper Town are hoping to put a dent in Scarborough Athletic's promotion hopes tomorrow – while strengthening their own position near the top of the Evo-Stik League First Division South table.

Fourth-placed Nailers are only six points behind leaders Halesowen Town.

Belper will travel to Bridlington, where Scarborough, last season's Northern Counties East League Premier Division champions, currently play home games.

They are ninth but only six points outside the play-off zone, with games in hand on some of their rivals.

"Scarborough are one of the better teams in the division and I'm quite surprised that they're not up at the top, with the resources they have," said Belper boss Peter Duffield (pictured).

"Having said that, there's still a long way to go and there's still time for them.

"Our incentive will be to try to make their job that bit harder.

"It will be a tough game, though, and we'll need to show all our fighting spirit."

Belper, who beat Scarborough 2-0 earlier in the season, have won their last three games, most recently claiming a 1-0 victory over one of the teams above them, Leek Town, last weekend.

"It was a tight game, with very few chances," said Duffield. "We got a penalty and Froggy (Jon Froggatt) put it away well.

"There have been times this season when we've had to score three or four to win a game, so it was nice to win it with just one goal.

"We didn't really look like conceding either. They had some pressure near the end, which you would expect, but we saw the game out well.

"We should take confidence from that."

Belper have lost only once in 10 league games – that was a 4-1 defeat to Chasetown last month.

"We've had a good week but we've been here before and then put in a slack performance," Duffield added.

"It's important we don't do that again.

"I do think we've got a little bit more about us now – but the Chasetown performance really did surprise me.

"If we learn from that, it will have been worthwhile."
