Charlie Palmer called for improvement in the final third from his side after the Nailers drew 0-0 with a 10 man Rushden & Diamonds.

The Diamonds were a man light for 66 minutes of the game; prompting Palmer to feel as if his side had dropped two points on the day.

Palmer said: “you must consider that they played us away and they beat us well, whereas today we have given them a good game but I’m still disappointed that we lost two points.

“I’ve got to be happy with the clean sheet but I felt that we created enough chances to win, we’ve got to improve in the final third.

“When you look back on the game we had a lot of the ball, but I think we need to look after the ball a lot better and provide more quality into the final third.”

The Nailers thought that they had won it in the dying moments of the game when Evan Garnett tapped into an empty goal from a Ruben Wiggins-Thomas cross.

However; the raised flag of the linesman ruled out the forwards goal and condemned Belper to just the single point.

Palmer was unsure as to whether the goal should have stood; but, says that it would not be the first time that his team have been let down by the officials this season.

He said: “When your lucks down your lucks down, it looked like a good goal, but as soon as he put it in the back of the net the flag was up.

“If I’m honest, I’ve not been impressed with the officials throughout the season and it may be yet another decision that’s gone against us and cost us.”

When the two sides met earlier in the season; the Nailers were beaten convincingly, with them losing 4-1 at home.

Palmer said that not only him, but also his players can see that his side have enhanced as a team, particularly when comparing to the result from earlier in the season.

Palmer said: “I think we have improved, some supporters will have their own views, but I’ve got to please my chairman and my players.

“The players have acknowledged that we have improved as a side, players have improved and we are going in the right direction.

“People will have their own opinions, I respect their opinions, but I know that with the group of players I’ve got, we are going in the right direction.”

Palmer’s side face Rugby Town at home; with his players having a two week break between these two fixtures before facing the relegation threatened side.
