Charlie Palmer left his side's draw against Carlton frustrated as he called for his players to start putting away their opportunities.

Palmer praised his sides defending however said that his side; “Had enough chances to win two or three games.

“It’s very frustrating because of everything I said at half time about; keeping our standards, not taking our foot off the pedal, showing some respect to the opposition and taking our chances.

“To be fair Carlton have had one chance and they put the ball in the back of the net.

“The defenders out there defended for their lives heading balls, trying to keep a clean sheet.”

Palmer’s side took the lead after Jonathan Williams smashed a penalty into the top right of the goal just seven minutes in. Belper would get many more chances including a one on one from Evan Garnett which he blasted over the crossbar.

But the Nailers couldn’t take any of their chances as Carlton scored an equaliser in the 94th minute to break Belper hearts.

Despite the frustrating result Palmer was impressed by the number of chances his side did create, however he could not look past the fact that his side should have collected all three points.

Palmer said; “It’s encouraging that we are creating so many chances but come on; we’re on a nice little run, we’re playing Carlton, for me that’s a great opportunity to collect three points.

“If we had collected three points we could have been up there in the top six or seven and it’s disappointing that some of the players couldn’t recognise the importance of this.

“We’re a young side, but players need to learn very quickly because if they don’t the opportunity will pass us by.”

This draw means that Belper are now nine games without a defeat but for Palmer this still isn’t enough and concludes that his side need to start picking up wins.

He said; “People will say that we’ve kept the run going, no, we could have kept the run going in the way that I wanted us to, by winning and winning convincingly.”

The Nailers will look to get back to winning ways when they face Alfreton Town at the Marston’s Stadium in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
