Season ends too quickly for Albans

3 years ago By David Laughlin

Whilst the Nailers won their final game, the campaign ended in relegation from the NPL Premier Division after just one season in the top flight.

Goals from Jonathan Williams and Paul Grimes were enough to see off Trafford, as the Nailers finished the season unbeaten in their last three games.

Manager Jimmy Albans (pictured) praised his teams' quality after the game, insisting the end of the season has come too soon.

"It's just a shame we don't have another half a dozen games or so, because we've improved an awful lot over these last handful of games.

"Since I came in and got this team together, I've known all along it is good enough to be competitive in this league, and we just needed to get through that mental barrier of winning a football match.

"We did that eventually, and since we've been difficult to beat, and these last three games has proved that.

"I thought we dominated the game throughout, and probably could have won by a few more had we have taken our chances.

"Both the goals were quality in their build up and finish, and the players now have got that understanding with each other and that's the sort of thing we can now produce on the football field."

With the season now complete, Albans has urged his players to be ready for proper pre-season, as the club will be aiming for promotion in the next campaign.

"It's important that we get back together for pre-season and get going really quickly.

"Things need to be done more professionally in the way that we train and go about our business on and off the field.

"That's everything from the tracksuits to the training kits and so on.

"As far as preparing for next season goes, I'll be starting Monday morning.

"We want to keep this team together and build on it and so we need to make sure we tie the lads down to renewed deals here,.

Albans finished by saying a big ‘thank you’ to the club and the supporters after enduring a difficult season.

"I'd just like to say to everybody at the club that I am thankful for their support, and I thank their patience they've shown in my and the staff.

"Believe me, next season will be an exciting one, and we want to get promoted back to this league again, that's our number one target.

"The clubs knows what it takes to get promoted now, and it's had its first taste of the Premier Division and we know we'll need to be well equipped next season in order to ensure we can achieve what we want."
