Belper Town suffered Bank Holiday misery at
the hands of UniBond League new boys Quorn and the ease of victory for
the Leicestershire side will give great cause for concern for Andy Carney
and Danny Hudson.
Gary Middleton was back in the heart of the
defence after missing the Grantham game and it was also the first outing
for Adam Ogden who had been suspended for the opening three fixtures.
Another player to make his first appearance
this season was Pete Smith who was preferred ahead of James Tevendale and
he played along side Danny Toranzcak because Anthony Wilson was
unavailable
The visitors, who had lost their previous
game, began positively with Scott Lower having a first minute shot turned
around the post by Adam Ogden.
But it was Belper who struck first when Lee
Stevenson's 3rd minute corner kick was punched away by Daniel Haystead
but Danny Toronzcak was well placed to head the ball back into the net.
The goal seemed to inspire Quorn who
immediately began to play the ball around impressively and Chris Goodman
collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area before trying to beat
Ogden, but the Belper 'keeper dived full length to push the ball away.
However an equaliser began to look
increasingly on the cards and when it came it was brilliantly created by
the impressive Layfield whose early cross into the box was met by Scott
Lower who gave Ogden little chance from 6 yards.
One of Belper's best moves of the half came
on the 30th minute when Danny Hudson fed the ball to Sean Gummer on the
right, and Toronzcak was inches away from meeting it at the near post.
Quorn always looked the more comfortable on
the ball and almost snatched another just before the break when Jamie
Clarke seemed certain to turn the ball in from close range, but got it
tangled up at his feet and Belper got it away from the danger area.
Adam Layfield ran 30 yards to fire in a low
shot early in the second period but Ogden was on hand to make the save,
then a Clarke header flew just over the bar from a Lower cross soon
afterwards.
Danny Hudson looked to have played Toronzcak
through on 56 minutes and as he nudged the ball past Haystead the Quorn
'keeper appeared to bring Toronzcak down, but the referee wasn't
convinced.
Vijinder Sidhu went on a run in the 61st
minute and his shot swerved away from the far post, then Stephen Evans
unleashed a cracking shot from 25 yards that bounced out of Ogden's grasp
but Clarke put the rebound over the top.
Belper were looking disjointed at this stage
and Quorn's ability on the ball was becoming more apparent.
The goal the visitors had being threatening
arrived on 73 minutes when Francino Francis scored with a powerful header
from a right wing corner.
Belper never looked like recovering from this
and matters just got worse.
Sidhu looked set to get another on 77 minutes
but Ogden's swift action denied the Quorn striker, but with the Nailers
increasingly in disarray it came as no surprise when Sidhu found the net
with a low drive from 12 yards after the Belper defence was taken apart
once more.
A miserable afternoon was completed when
Jamie Clarke fired in from close range on 87 minutes and the Nailers management
were left pondering on a performance that was nowhere good enough.
