Young people
from Belper and the surrounding area have an action-packed day to look
forward to during the school Easter holiday, thanks to Belper Town
Football Club, Amber Valley Community Safety Partnership and Belper Town
Council.
The Nailers
are teaming up with the Partnership to provide a Football in the
Community day, designed to encourage young people to take part in
positive activity and Belper Town Council has agreed to donate £500
towards the cost of the event.
The Easter 2008 football
extravaganza is being held at Belper Town FC on Saturday, April 19 from
11am to 5pm.
Last year the
Partnership organised a similar event in conjunction with Alfreton Town
FC, and it proved a real winner. Around 70 young people, boys and girls,
turned up for the original event and it is hoped that at least as many
will come along to this one at Christchurch Meadow.
In addition
to a five-a-side football competition featuring teams including ones from
Belper Drop In, Heage Youth Club, Teachers,
Police and Police Cadets there will be competitions including a Penalty Shootout, bungee run, surf
simulator and target shooting.
Prizes
are up for grabs in each of these activities and there will also be a
prize for the boy and girl who try their best throughout
the day. The prize bags will be packed with goodies including a Belper
Town FC scarf, football, swim goggles, water bottle, pedometer and
skipping rope.
Vicki England, Assistant Community Safety Officer with Amber
Valley Community Safety Partnership said: “The Partnership is delighted
to have helped organise and fund the day which we hope will attract
dozens of youngsters and their families.
“A similar event that we helped stage in Alfreton last year went
down very well, and in fact some of the football teams that took part
there are competing again in this one. Everyone involved hopes it will
encourage young people to spend their time taking part in positive,
healthy activities.”
Parents are welcome to
accompany their children to the event but they will have to pay the usual
admission fee if they want to stay to watch Belper Town play Alsager Town
in a UniBond League match in the afternoon. All parents will need to have
completed a registration form for their child or else accompany them to
the registration desk at Belper Town FC prior to the start of the event.
The
final of the Penalty Shootout competition will take place at half time of
this match.
