'Nailers Notebook'

Nailers Full Time Football Academy

Local youngsters will shortly be given an amazing opportunity to become full time footballers at Belper Town Football Club in an innovative scheme set up by the Football Association and supported by the Barclays Premier League.

The scheme will commence in August 2008 and will operate in partnership between the Nailers and Castle College, Nottingham.

The scheme is designed to offer young adults, aged between 16 and 19, a one year full time course (with the possibility to extend to three years subject to age restrictions) that will allow them to train with the club every day whilst picking up nationally recognised qualifications.

Players will spend each day from Monday to Friday at Christchurch Meadow, training and studying for their qualifications whilst also playing competitive matches for a new Belper Town Under 19s team in a new midweek league organised for clubs involved in the scheme.

Players will also have the chance to progress into one of the senior teams at Belper Town FC whilst showcasing their talents during these Under19 league matches.

Training will be delivered by a full time UEFA qualified coach, John Horsley, who is well known locally for his work with the Belper Community Football Programme

Subject to completing the course and passing the award, players will gain a number of qualifications that could help them to secure employment in the football / leisure industry. Alternatively, opportunities will be made available for them to progress onto further courses that will provide them with qualifications needed to progress into higher education.

All participants will be provided with support and guidance to help them make these decisions.

In summary, participants will have the chance to gain nationally recognised awards, including:

·         An NVQ Level 3 in Sporting Excellence

·         The Football Association Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football

·         Award in Exercise & Fitness

Whilst on the course participants will also be given the opportunity to take

·         The FA level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football

·         The FA Coaching disabled Footballers Course

·         The FA Level 1 Futsal Course

The scheme will be restricted to 20 places and places will be allocated on the basis of the individual’s willingness to enrol in the various courses of study and their inherent football ability.

So, if someone you know might wish to enrol onto the scheme or wants to gain more information, please contact John Horsley on 07899 902734 or by emailing the club at info@belpertownfc.co.uk
