Under 21s maintain winning streak
Under 21s come from a goal down to beat Clipstone 3-1
As in the home fixture between these teams, the U21s came from a goal down to beat Clipstone 3-1.
However it was a different type of game as Clipstone were much improved and Belper started strangely out of sorts.
From the kick off the U21s struggled to get their passing game going and were slow to win the ball back.
Clipstone were well organised defensively and looked to cause problems on the break.
Clipstone thought they'd taken the lead when a fine finish beat keeper Rathbone but the referee judged that the ball had not crossed the line.
However moments later Clipstone were ahead as they were quicker to respond to a loose ball from a corner.
This stirred Belper into action and they began to look more threatening with Jake O'Keefe looking particularly dangerous.
Just before half time their pressure was rewarded when Joe Brumby scored with a fine header from a corner.
This had been the same half time score in the home fixture and the Under 21s started the second half with momentum and began to impose themselves on the game.
They were thankful however to Rathbone for an excellent save at his near post before Knowles kept up his record of scoring in every game after the Clipstone keeper could only parry a shot.
Belper were now the side looking more likely to win the match although Clipstone still threatened and Broughton was particularly strong at the heart of the Belper defence.
The Under 21s got the breathing space they needed when the referee awarded a penalty following a challenge on Bullock and Constable finished well from the spot.
Belper could have scored more in the remaining minutes but will have been satisfied with a win when they were not at their best.
