Nailers Earn First Home Point
The Nailers recovered from a heavy 4-1 defeat in the Emirates FA Cup against Lincoln United to earn a first home point for the season.
After the disappointing cup exit from Belper in midweek, Danylyk and Donnelly’s side put in a much-improved performance against a side that has proved to be tricky opposition.
Belper had the perfect start to the game as Josh Barr-Rostron gave the Nailers the lead three minutes in. He received the ball on the edge of the box and struck the ball excellently into the back of the net.
But it was level just before the break as Robert Norris matched Barr-Rostron’s impressive strike, finding some space on the edge of the box before smashing it home.
This goal came slightly against the run of play, with the Nailers being on top throughout the first half, with Lincon having only a few chances.
But the Whites restored the dominance they showed in midweek early in the second half, hitting the crossbar in the early stages of the half as well as forcing Danny Roberts into an excellent stretching save to keep it level.
But the Nailers came closest to finding the winner through Kieran O’Connell, who was making his first competitive appearance for the Nailers after returning from a serious knee injury. Alex Steadman put in an excellent ball to O’Connell, but his close-range effort was saved well.
Both teams continued to push to find a winning goal; but neither could find the breakthrough, with the game finishing 1-1.
The result in the end feels fair although both sides had the opportunity to get themselves a winner and three points.
The Nailers will be searching for their first win of the new campaign on Monday as we travel to fellow Derbyshire side Gresley FC.
