Replay needed as Nailers are held in Emirates FA Cup
The Nailers played out an exciting goalless draw in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary round away at Lincoln United.
After 90 minutes of end to end action in Lincoln, the two sides will have to do it all over again on Tuesday to progress in the competition.
The game started in the way that it would go on, with both teams attacking and searching for the opener throughout.
Belper can thank shot-stopper Danny Roberts for keeping them in the Emirates FA Cup, making two incredible saves in the first half, as well as claiming every ball that was floated into his box with great confidence.
The closest that Belper came to opening the scoring was through Josh Barr-Rostron. His low effort from the edge of the box after 70 minutes forced the keeper into an excellent diving save that just stopped the ball from finding the back of the net.
But the home side were closest to finding the winner, with Harry Millard’s sweetly struck volley cannoning off the crossbar, certainly getting Belper hearts racing.
Lincoln began to truly find their attacking rhythm throughout the early stages, putting on attack after attack without truly being able to break down the strong defensive partnership of Drew Ricketts and Max Hunt.
But the Nailers were determined to find a winner and continued to push for the all-important goal to get through to the 1st qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Some good attacks from Kyle Clarke and Jahvan Davidson-Miller gave Belper hope but a breakthrough couldn’t be found for either side.
In the first ever meeting of the two sides in the Emirates FA Cup, there were no goals, but that simply doesn’t tell the tale of what was a thrilling game that could have gone either way.
But it will all be decided who goes through on Tuesday nights as Lincoln travel to the Marston’s Stadium for what promises to be another exciting encounter.
