Belper manager Grant Black believed that his side’s 1-3 defeat to Brighouse Town, “was the right result.”

It’s not a lack of effort that’s cost us today, they’ll always put that effort in but I just thought it was a flat, lethargic performance where we were second best to everything really, from start to finish

“We were poor all over the pitch. Physically, we couldn’t deal with them at all. It’s massively disappointing to lose the game to those sort of things,” said Black.

“It’s something we’ll have to look at and I just told the lads that it will not be accepted. So, maybe we’ll have to part ways with a couple of them and look at bringing a few fresh faces in.”

“It’s not a lack of effort that’s cost us today, they’ll always put that effort in but I just thought it was a flat, lethargic performance where we were second best to everything really, from start to finish,” added the Belper boss.

Speaking about his team’s second-half performance, he said: “The lads kept pushing to try and nick a goal, but it’s easy at 1-3 down to want to get on the ball and want to try and play. They need to be doing that at 1-1.

“If Alex (Peterson) scores at 1-3, the header at the back-stick, it could have potentially made it an interesting last 20 minutes. But that pretty much summed up today.”

“We had a game plan, as to how we thought we could have hurt Brighouse, but we didn’t stick to it at all. They’ve all been performing well but it’s about doing it every week.

“Doing it for three or four but then dropping off for one or two is not what we’re about and it’s not what we’ll accept, so we’ll have a look at things.” noted Black.

Fresh from his midweek hat-trick at lowly Gresley, Belper’s Piteu Crouz had another good game. This time, setting up his side’s only goal of the game.

Grant Black praised the forward after the match, saying: “Pete (Crouz) is a player that, when we give him the ball and put it into dangerous areas, he can hurt people.

“But we didn’t do that today for him, which is another frustrating thing. Pete’s worked hard but we haven’t given him the ball to be able to punish them in areas where we thought he could do that.”

Black also had some kind words for new signing from Sheffield FC, 22-year-old, Anthony Mackie (pictured), stating: “I thought he did alright. You can tell he’s not played for two or three weeks so it was a big call to put him in, but with Danny South missing, we had to move things about a bit.

“We know what Ant (Mackie) can do and once he gets some games under his belt, he’ll be a positive acquisition for us moving forward”.
