Anthony Danylyk came away from his first home game in charge of the Nailers feeling positive after drawing 1-1 with Rushall Olympic.

Belper took the lead after Alex Steadman’s fantastic solo goal just before half time, but a late goal that went in directly from a corner saw the game finish level.

Boss Danylyk was pleased with what he saw from his team on the night and with the development that he has seen from his side over the past few weeks of pre-season.

He said: “I think that the lads looked really good tonight, we restricted them to few chances really and the goal that we did concede was a freak goal direct from the corner.

“It’s been a massive improvement from the lads over the past few weeks or so and we are just happy that we are now seeing a bit of progression from the lads.”

Danylyk was happy with the performances from all of his players, however he highlighted the performance of Joe Hunt at full back and the adaptability he showed.

“I think Joe Hunt was brilliant at full back today, he started off at right back and then switched to the other side and he was fantastic all game,” Danylyk said.

“I think he’s one for the future, he’s really strong, he can defend well and is really good going forward as well so that is very pleasing.

“It is however difficult to single out any players tonight as I believe that their were good performances all across the field for the team tonight.”

When Danylyk and Paul Donnelly were appointed, they said that they wanted to play football that was pleasing to the eye, this style of play was shown throughout the night, with the players moving the ball quickly, maintaining possession and building from the back.

Danylyk said: “We’ve said that we want to play in this way since we came to the team, it’s early days still so the fitness levels aren’t at peak yet but it’s certainly coming.

“We want to press high up the pitch so in the next few weeks we are going to the levels of fitness up to what they should be and we’ll start to see an improvement on the field.”

The Nailers next game comes against United Counties Premier Division Side Kirby Muxloe and Danylyk is looking to give a number of his players the opportunity to get a run out.

He said: “I don’t much about them if I’m honest but it will be a chance for us change things around a bit and give some of the lads who haven’t played quite as much some minutes on the field.”

The Nailers return to the Marston’s Stadium on the 29th as we welcome Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division side Mickleover Sports.
