Nailers boss Paul Donnelly was happy to see his players response from their cup exit to earn a draw at home to Lincoln United.

Donnelly’s side were comfortably beaten in midweek by the Whites to knock the Nailers out of the Emirates FA Cup.

But the Belper players picked their selves up and responded with a much-improved performance, earning their first home point of the season.

Donnelly said: “We had a good chat after Tuesday and we were all in agreement that it wasn’t good enough for Belper Town Football Club. We asked for a reaction and I think we got it.

“Over the course of the 90 minutes I think a draw is a fair result, but we had some chances towards the end to nick it which would have been nice, but we wanted a better performance and I think we got it.

“The back four did really well, Max Hunt and Joe Hunt were both excellent, but we had decent performances throughout the team.”

The Nailers now travel to face fellow Derbyshire side rivals, and Donnelly will be hoping that he can pick up his first three points as Nailers boss.

“It’s going to be a tough game, always been a tough place to go to but we’ll be looking to win. The opening fixtures have brought some difficult games and were expecting another one at Gresley.” Donnelly said.

“We’ll be going there looking for three points and if we build on Saturday’s performance then there’s no reason we can’t do that.”
