Belper Town duo Alex Steadman and Dominic Allen have left to join Evo-Stik Division One East rivals Gresley.

Allen was the Nailers’ player of the year last season while Steadman was a regular goalscorer during his time with the club.

And as new boss Grant Black continues to shape his squad as his players returned to pre-season training this week, he wished the pair well.

He said: “Obviously we had spoken to all the players from last season but it isn’t a case of us wanting to chase those who don’t want to stay.

“If players would prefer to move on or if they want to stay and buy into what we’re doing then that’s their choice.

“It was a really positive session on Monday night and those that have remained from last season reacted positively to what we’re trying to do.

“In an ideal world you’d like to have a look at everyone but things change and we wish those who opt to leave all the best.”

Black and his coaching staff were left enthused by their opening session and he says he is continuing to relish the opportunity of managing the club.

He said: “It’s a really exciting challenge and there are good players here to work with, both that were here before and who we’ve brought in.

“The lads have come back in good condition too which is always a bonus early on.

“The training sessions and matches will help shape our thoughts as to what’s still needed and what isn’t, and the first friendly at South Normanton will be a chance for us to look at those players from last season and some of the under-21 players too.

“We’re really keen to get games in but, as with signing players, patience is key as we try and thune everything to how we want it.”
