Nailers manager Charlie Palmer expressed disappointmnt over the home defeat by Rugby Town but expects a reaction against Stocksbridge tonight

“Saturday’s match was extremely disappointing because the way we played for 70 minutes against Coalville and then to go and play like we did against Rugby,” said Palmer

“I have to take some responsibility for my team selection but my players, who are an honest group, also need to take some responsibility too.”

“I have told my players that they cannot drop their standards that much from one game to the next.

“Three or four players let their heads drop and it appeared they were just going through the motions.

“It is a learning process for my players, if they concede a goal or two goals like on Saturday, you have to keep on fighting and keep going like we have done in the past.

“I had to make a change to my midfield.

“Their number 10, Kevin Thornton created both goals and caused us problems all throughout the first half.

“I identified this problem at half-time and Mikey (Michael Armstrong) (pictured) went on and stopped him from playing.

“He is a terrier, he will break things up and keep things nice and simple.

“If he was fully fit he would have started, I know what Jonno (Jonathan Williams) and Gravesy (Eric Graves) are good at, but sometimes you need players who are going to stop the other team from playing.

“Gerome Palmer, Dominic Allen, Ross Parker and Mikey all want to play Evo-Stik football. They are all going to get their opportunity but I do not believe they are confident enough that they can play at this level.

“They have all come in and done well but they need to improve as a team.

“I am over the moon that we have a game on Tuesday, it would have been a long week thinking about that performance against Rugby.

“The lads have got an opportunity to bounce back and we want the three points.”
