The Belper manager was frustrated by the way that his team played in the 2-1 defeat to Gresley FC.

“I’m very disappointed that we went to Chasetown and got a clean sheet against one of the best teams in the league and then conceded two sloppy goals against a team who we should be beating if we have any aspiration of doing anything.

“Players have let themselves down, they’ve let their teammates down and they’ve let me down - but at the end of the day we have to go again on Saturday against Hednesford.”

Palmer’s side face the Evo Stik Premier League side in the First Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup and he says that his side need to improve at the back and in the final third of the field if they have any hope of winning.

“We have got to defend better on Saturday, we’re creating chances but players are making the wrong decisions in the final third, people are trying to be greedy instead of slipping it into their teammate.

“What disappoints me is that when you look at Kidsgrove, Newcastle, Basford and look at today's game, all of the goals that we have conceded have been poor goals.

“No matter how many chances that you create you cannot be giving away sloppy goals like we’ve done today.

“I don’t understand how you can go to Chasetown and get a clean sheet and then play at home and concede sloppy goals like that.”

In the Nailers goalless draw against Chasetown, they suffered two very early injuries to Ross Parker and Matt Richards, Gerome Palmer is also a concern going into the Nailers game at the weekend.

Palmer is considering bringing in new faces to his squad.

“Matt Richards (pictured)is likely to be out for a couple of weeks, Ross will be about for probably a month, and Gerome is touch and go for Saturdays game.

“I probably need to start looking for players to bring in because you can’t keep giving players chance after chance after chance and then not taking on board what it is that they are supposed to do”.
