Nailers Unbeaten Run Frustratingly Ended

Belper Town’s 12 game unbeaten run came to a frustrating end after Stamford comfortably saw off the Nailers.

The Nailers got their first taste of defeat since October; with them collecting five wins along the impressive run that saw them begin to climb the table.

Stamford started the more positive of the two sides; with them attacking at will and not being afraid to pull the trigger.

But it wasn’t till the second half that the visitors found themselves in front through a Delroy Gordon header.

Gordon found himself in way too much space in the box before smashing his header into the top right; well out of the reach of the impressive Scott Low.

The Nailers were given an early hindrance with Gerome Palmer having to leave the field just nine minutes into the game; with Mike Armstrong taking his place in the centre of the defence.

This set up for a difficult afternoon straight away for Belper; with the make shift defence being tested on a regular basis by the impressive Courtney Meade constantly pressuring the goal.

Stamford doubled their lead later in the second half; with Jake Duffy firing a low shot from distance into the bottom right of the Belper goal.

Duffy’s shot was excellent; however, the midfielder found himself in way too much space before he took aim at goal.

The best spell of the game for the Nailers came towards the end of the second half; with them beginning to create chances and playing much more positively.

The closest the Nailers came to opening the scoring was through Dean Freeman.

A goal mouth scramble fell to the centre half; his improvised back heel effort was saved by the goalkeeper before his second effort was blocked before being cleared to safety by the Stamford defenders.

The main difficulty for the Nailers was getting past a strong Stamford defence; the star of which was Kern Miller who seemed to snub out every Belper attack as well as looking like a constant threat from set pieces.

The Nailers will be disappointed to lose their long unbeaten run in the league; however, their attentions now turn to The Integro League Cup as Belper come up against Chasetown at home in a bid to reach the quarter final.
