Belper Town deserved a point from this clash with play off hopefuls Stamford even though they had to defend valiantly following Jake Carlisle's 79th minute sending off, writes Nigel Oldrini.

Manager Aaron Webster made three changes to the team that drew against Romulus with Callum Lloyd, Cameron Steele and Max Thornberry named as substitutes and replaced by Joe Hunt, Dylan Garnett and Jack Hallahan.

Stamford arrived at the Marstson's looking to consolidate their position in the play offs and their starting line up included four ex Belper players with Danny Haystead, Kieran and Bradley Wells and Michael Armstrong all involved.

This game won't be remembered as the most eventful contest seen at the Marston's this season but was notable for extending the Nailers' unbeaten run to four games.

The Belper back line was successful in containing a potent forward line comprising of Kieran and Bradley Wells and despite some robust aerial challenges, keeper Joe Searson-Smithard kept his goal intact.

Bradley Wells had a shot on the turn in the 16th minute that swerved away from the near post, and Joe Searson-Smithard had to be smart to push away an in swinging corner from Eliot Putman.

Kieran Wells came closest to a goal on 27 minutes when he nearly caught out Searson-Smiithard with a surprise hook shot that was bound for the top corner before the Belper 'keeper got a hand to it.

Belper's best effort came from Lee Williamson on 38 minutes when he showed good close control to bring the ball down, but his dipping volley went wide of the target. Haydn Goddard nearly caught out former Belper stopper Dan Haystead with a curling free kick that eluded everyone and looked destined to sneak in at the far post.

The early stages of the second period produced nothing of note in front of goal for either side and although Belper enjoyed good possession in the middle of the half they couldn't fashion an opening. A scoreless draw had looked likely for some time, however when Jake Carlisle received a second yellow card on 79 minutes, and subsequently a red, then the odds turned in favour of the visitors.

Even though the Daniels had most of the possession in the final 10 minutes the closest they came to snatching a winner was when an 87th minute corner kick was deflected onto the foot of the post.

Dominic Allen, skipper for the day, threw himself in front of a fiercely struck volley from Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson and the Nailers saw out the rest of the game to secure a well earned point.
