Belper Town ran out comfortable winners against Market Drayton Town by hitting five goals without reply at Christchurch Meadow.

Richard Adams retained his place in the starting line-up due to the unavailability of Karl Colley, while an injury to Darryl Thomas gave Shaun Tuton a start alongside Jon Froggatt.

Colin Marrison, who is due to start a three game suspension on Tuesday was named as a substitute and new signing Matt Millns was also on the bench.

Aaron Pride wasn’t judged fit enough to be considered for selection.

The game took time to settle down and was scrappy for a while but in the 8th minute Shaun Tuton set Simon Harrison up for a shot but it was quickly charged down.

The Nailers had a handball decision go against them in the 15th minute following a Simon Harrison cross but the referee wasn’t interested, and at this stage the Nailers were finding it difficult to penetrate a packed defence.

However Belper struck twice in a minute when Richard Adams hit a low drive into the far corner of the net on 18 minutes following a Simon Harrison corner, then with play only restarted for a few seconds, Harrison hit a vicious effort from 20 yards that swerved away from Danny Roberts and flew into the net.

Glyn Cotton nearly made it three on the half hour mark when he struck a half volley just over the cross bar from 12 yards, although since Belper’s second goal Market Drayton had come into the game a little more.

Aaron Chapman had a couple of poorly hit shots to save during this period of possession by the visitors, however Glyn Cotton spurned a great chance in the 42nd minute after Shaun Tuton laid the ball across the edge of the six yard area but Cotton lifted his shot over the bar.

The third goal arrived on the stroke of half time after some great work from Jon Froggatt in finding Shaun Tuton at the far post where the Belper striker finished clinically from close in.

Glyn Cotton fired a difficult chance over the top after Jon Froggatt had brought the ball down on the corner of the six yard area, as the Nailers began the second period in search of more goals.

Glyn Cotton was gifted a goal in the 51st minute after going it alone from midfield and although he had appeared to have lost control of the ball, Danny Roberts and Nick Porter left the responsibility to each other leaving Cotton to score the easiest goal he is ever likely to get.

Market Drayton responded with a swift attack culminating with a Rob Stevenson effort that cannoned off the outside of the post in the 54th minute, then Grant Goodhead stuck a fine effort from just inside the penalty area with the ball hitting the inside of the post and being cleared to safety.

Belper broke away in the 60th minute and Eric Graves was denied by a brilliant save from Danny Roberts who managed to palm away Graves’ goal bound effort.

Simon Harrison nipped in with a smart angled finish on 68 minutes to make it 5-0 and he should have secured his hat trick 2 minutes later when he screwed his shot wide with only the ‘keeper to beat.

Jon Froggatt missed a good opportunity to get on the score sheet in the 85th minute when he had a free header from a Simon Harrison, however Aaron Chapman pulled off a superb save to deny Dorryl Proffitt and preserve Belper’s clean sheet.

The Nailers had to repel a number of attacks in the latter stages but Market Drayton were a spent force by this time and the game had effectively been won a long time ago.

Belper could look back on another convincing performance and retained their position in the play off places.
