Belper Town Ladies were on the wrong end of an 8-2 defeat at Borrowash on Wednesday evening, a team they had kept to within one at the Raygar Stadium only a week ago.

The home side started the brighter and it was only four minutes before they took the lead. A corner from the right was volleyed in by Emily Foss from close range.

Belper levelled within two minutes when a free kick was awarded on the left, 25 yards from goal. Mia Carnelley stepped up and the shot was past the goalkeeper before she even had chance to react.

In the 11th minute another Vics corner caused problems for the Nailers defence, this time Beth Jones headed over the bar when she should have hit the target.

On 20 minutes Jones was played in to a one on one situation with Emma Varnam. The Belper goalkeeper produced a great block from the initial shot but with no defenders on hand to clear Jones tapped in the rebound to make it 2-1.

That became 3-1 six minutes later when Jones cut in from the left and did really well to create a chance for herself. She finished nicely and there was daylight between the sides.

Belper had a couple of good chances to get back in to the match after that, with Macie White bringing a good save out of Nikki Baillie and Carnelley diverting a good cross from the left just over the bar.

Borrowash made them pay in the 34th minute with a carbon copy of the first goal, a corner was swung in and volleyed home by Eloise Thurman.

Belper reduced the arrears to two goals shortly after when a corner of their own landed at the head of India Amans. She controlled her header well in a crowded penalty area.

Two minutes before half time Jones found herself through on goal and once again Varnam came up with a good save but the ball went straight back to the Vics striker who made sure it was 5-2 at the break.

Two minutes in to the second half Carnelley rolled the ball off for Faulding but Baillie saved well down low.

Borrowash secured the points on 53 minutes when Chelsie Tebble found herself on the end of a throughball. She didn't need a second chance and it was 6-2.

With 20 minutes remaining a corner from Amans fell to White who showed excellent composure to create an opening but her shot was well saved.

In the 76th minute a slip at the back allowed Tebble in to make it seven.

The scoring was completed in the final minute of normal time when Belper couldn't clear a corner and Thurman slotted home.

A disappointing result against a team the Nailers had run close in their previous league encounter.

Dom Anderson's side now have just one fixture remaining - they are at least one game ahead of every other team in the division - and that is the trip to league leaders Draycott Victoria this coming Sunday. They should still go in to that fixture with confidence having held their own and gone in at half time 1-1 when the fixture was abandoned a few weeks ago.
