The Nailers have gone from disappointment to pleasure after two successive victories in the space of five days to turn around their misfortunes from the previous week, writes Joe Malone.

Firstly, they travelled away to Goole on Tuesday night and ran riot to smash their opponents by 6-2 in the league followed by an FA Carlsberg Trophy Preliminary Round victory against Loughborough Dynamo, winning 2-0.

Manager Peter Duffield was relieved that his players have provided a reaction to the previous week’s disappointments and is hoping for a more relaxing week before next Saturday’s fixture at Gresley FC.

“It’s good to get back to winning ways; I’d say we actually played better against Carlton than we did yesterday but the main thing was to win to tie and I’m absolutely delighted with the lads.

“Football is a funny thing. A week ago we were failing to convert our chances having put in good performances and not deserving to lose, followed by scoring a hatful of goals one week later and against Loughborough in particular, it could have gone either way.”

The Nailers introduced two new signings to the team on Saturday in Liam Davis and Gareth Davies, and Duffield was keen to place on record his thanks to the two clubs directly involved in the transfers.

“I really must offer a massive ‘thank you’ to both Matlock Town and Stocksbridge Park Steels for making sure the transfers went through so quickly and it really helped us out for the game on Saturday.

“Regarding the two new boys, they’ve not played a lot of minutes this season so it’s a credit to them to have come into the game and play so well.”

The Nailers can now look forward to a week of training and recuperation before the next fixture, and they will be hoping that there will be a smaller injury list come the weekend.

“Sam Duncum and Chris Adam were doing some light training on Saturday so we’ll assess them this week, but we hope they will be available for the next game.

“Jon Froggatt and Colin Marrison both fell ill late in the week and couldn’t play a part in the game at a risk of the illness spreading. Hopefully it’s one of those 24/48 hour bugs and they’ll be back to normal next week.”

Shaun Tuton (pictured) put in a ‘man of the match’ performance against Loughborough, earned himself praise from Duffield, and the manager is keen to see his form continue.

“He is excellent, gives us energy, chases everything and never gives in.

“He has a top class attitude. He has added a few goals to his tally more recently which will please him and it certainly pleases us. Let’s hope he can keep the goals flowing.”
