Young Nailers edged out at Mossley

A young Belper side travelled up to Mossley off the back of a loss in their opening league game at home to Leek Town, so they were hoping to change their fortunes with a good result at Mossley.

Belper started bright and within 6 minutes had a free kick in a dangerous position but Cain could only hit the wall and the ball went out for a corner. Belper made an early change with Corden going off for Tunnicliffe after only 17 minutes.

Belper managed to carve out a couple of chances with Jack Cain in the space of 5 minutes with the first effort being a volley that went just wide and a second attempt after half an hour, again on the volley, this time forcing the Mossley keeper into a good save.

Belper made another change just before half time with Dan Daley making way for Morgan Holloway. right on the stroke of half time Lee Carter was booked for a strong challenge on the Mossley player.

Belper made a double substitution not long after half time with Corden and Tidmarsh coming on for Barrow and Taylor. A couple minutes after the changes were made Belper conceded a penalty whcih was duly converted by the Mossley no.9, sending Jack Repton the wrong way.

Belper had the chance to hit back straight after the goal as the ball was played into Literski , who held the ball up well but put his shot wide of the mark. two more changes were made before the 70th minute with Taylor coming on for Corden and Dudley coming on for Cain. Goalkeeper Jack Repton was forced off on the 70th minute with a recurring thigh injury which he had only just recovered from with Ben Pickering taking his place.

The young Nailers created two chances in the space of two minutes with Carter hitting a shot from distance which sailed over the cross bar and then a lovely ball in from Carter was met by the head of Kyle Higton but the ball went just over the bar.

Belper did eventually put the ball in the back of the net but the referee had spotted a foul in the build up and the goal was chalked off. There was time for one last chance in the game for Belper and it fell to Tidmarsh 10 yards out but his effort went over the bar.

Belper XI: Repton, Barrow, L.Higton, K.Higton, Gregory, Cain, Dudley, Dayley, Corden, Literski, Taylor
Subs: Pickering, Tidmarsh, Carter, Holloway, Tunnicliffe
