The FA Trophy kicked off in style for the Nailers with a convincing home win over Loughborough Dynamo in the preliminary round, writes Joe Malone.

After six goals scored in midweek, Belper were hoping to maintain their recent form in front of goal, and so it proved as two goals in two minutes completed the job.

Manager Peter Duffield introduced two new signings to the starting line up as Liam Davis came in at right back, and Gareth Davies played on the left of midfield.

The game began with a relatively slow tempo which saw Belper retain the larger proportion of possession.

The first real talking point of the match came on 29th minute after a brilliant break by Belper.

Playmaker Glyn Cotton picked the ball up inside his own half and released Liam Davis down the right. Davis then fed Shaun Tuton on the right hand side of the area, who took on his man and drilled a low ball across the six yard box towards the oncoming Mark Ward. Ward had appeared to be pushed to the ground from behind, but the referee waved the appeals away.

Loughborough then had the best of the chances for the remaining first half with Anthony Griffith Jnr producing some neat touches.

His first chance came on 37th minute when he turned Davis on the left to cut inside and produce a thunderous drive from outside the box, which Scot Low tipped over the bar as the ball swerved.

Five minutes later Loughborough hit the bar when a corner by Ryan Tinsley was headed towards goal by Joe Pheasant which agonisingly crashed against the woodwork.

The second half produced two quick fire goals for the Nailers to see out the task after early pressure from Dynamo.

Scott Low produced an assured performance in goal for Belper, making some impressive saves.

The best of the bunch came on 50th minute when again Griffith Jnr had his shot pushed away for a corner much to the delight of the fans, as the shot looked goal bound all the way.

The pressure was finally eased on 61st minute for Belper when the hard work and graft of Shaun Tuton produced quality to match to lead to the Nailers first goal.

Joe Conkleton took his man on inside left and swung in a left footed cross which was headed on by Simon Harrison for Shaun Tuton to get the all-important touch into the back of the net.

Two minutes later Mark Ward played a terrific ball through for Tuton whose pace took him away from the defence and his skill took him around the goalkeeper to lay the ball off for Simon Harrison to fire his second goal in as many games.

Frustration then got the better of Loughborough and Shaun Tuton proved to be the thorn in the back of their defence.

78 minutes in saw an off the ball incident between Carl Sibson and Shaun Tuton, when Sibson kicked the face of his opponent when on the ground and was rightfully sent off.

The game was then played out in slower motion as Dynamo seemed pre-educated of their fate and the Nailers had seemingly got the job done.

A pleasing week for the Nailers after their disappointed from the previous week which will please the manager, the players and the fans.
