Manager Peter Duffield made six changes to his side that beat Eastwood Town, with Dave Ratcliffe, Gareth Davies, Colin Marrison and Sam Duncum coming in, along with home debutants Luke Beatson and Kieran Wells.

It was to be some home debut for the new striker Wells, who went on to score a hat-trick for his new side, to show the fans why the Nailers signed him.

It took seven minutes for the Tuton-Wells partnership to unfold, with a long ball up to Wells which was headed onto Tuton and returned with his first touch for Wells to strike on the half volley from the edge of the area, sailing two yards over the bar.

However, a minute later saw Wells claim his first Belper goal. A good move down the right hand side between Chris Jones and Harrison produced an inch perfect cross by the latter for Kieran Wells to head comfortably into the corner of the net as he arrived unmarked at the back post.

Michael Williams then had a chance for Ilkeston on eleven minutes when his effort from the right from distance sent Ratcliffe backpedalling in a rush to grasp the ball into his hands.

Simon Harrison later had a free kick saved which was curled towards goal from the right, following a move between Tuton and Jones which saw Jones flash a ball across the face of the goal and evade everyone to trickle away for a goal kick.

Ilkeston had another chance to equalise when Che Adams headed the ball into the box was flicked on by Ryan Wilson and a first time effort from Antwan Russell was well saved by Ratcliffe.

Simon Harrison then had another close range free kick, this time from the left, which looped over the wall but didn’t quite achieve the intended curl, meaning a comfortable save for goalkeeper Lloyd Allinson.

The Nailers increased their lead on the 37th minute when the ever-dangerous Harrison whipped a cross-come-shot from the left into the danger area which was flicked on with the slightest of touches by Kieran Wells to double Belper’s lead and his own tally.

Antwan Russell could have halved the deficit just before the break when the ball fell to him on the edge of the area which was struck well on the half volley but straight into the goalkeepers’ gloves.

The second half produced more action in front of goal as both sides had chances.

The first for Wells whose snap shot from the edge of the box was fired straight at the ‘keeper.

Minutes later, the industrious Shaun Tuton chased down a teasing back pass which produced an attempted clearance by the keeper, only for Tuton to block and the ball fell wide.

Russell then had his third chance of the game after being played through on the right, only for Ratcliffe to come out well and tip away from the feet of the Ilkeston forward.

Wells then came close to a hat-trick after the ball was bought down well by the Belper striker, who touched the ball to the right but his shot was matched by the Ilkeston ‘keeper.

Substitute and club captain Steve Warne nearly got a rare goal, when Chris Jones fired a low cross in from the right which Warne controlled at the near post and flicked the ball between his legs, only for the ball to slip the wrong side of the post.

But it was the 86th minute which proved to be the golden moment for the Nailers new boy when Gareth Davies drilled in a free kick from the right which Allinson could only punch into the path of Kieran Wells who fired home for his hat-trick.

The Nailers now face a trip to Premier Division, Frickley Athletic in the second round of the competition on 3rd December.
