Gavin Allott's 16th minute goal was enough to see Frickley Athletic beat off the challenge from Belper Town and progress to the Doodson Cup Third Round, writes Steve Pennock

Belper introduced a couple of new faces to the bench in Joel Coustrain and Kyle Scarisbrick, both on work experience registrations from Sheffield United.

Belper had a chance within the first 30 seconds as Steve Warne poked the ball past Sam Denton and into the path of Jon Froggatt but Ben Simpson was quickly out deny him.

Simpson comfortably collected an effort from Kieran Wells before the Blues took the lead on 16 minutes. A long clearance by Simpson was flicked on by both Matty Bloor and Luke Hinsley for Gavin Allott to break clear and blast the ball past low at his near post from a tight angle.

A corner from former Nailer Jimmy Ghaichem eluded everyone and bounced just wide of the far post minutes later whilst Kieran Wells had the ball in the net on 20 minutes for Belper but was ruled marginally offside.

Allott then headed straight at Scott Low from a good cross from Hinsley whilst at the other end Simpson was down smartly to collect a low shot from Sam Duncum.

A goalmouth scramble just before half time saw the Nailers appealing for a goal as Steve Gardner cleared off the line but the referee and assistant were unmoved by the protests, despite the ball looking comfortably over the line.

Five minutes after half time Colin Marrison fired wide when well placed for the visitors whilst a good run down the right from Allott saw him pick out Hinsley at the near post but he guided his shot wide of the post.

The Blues then missed two great chances in quick succession when first Hinsley was clean through but his low shot was blocked by Low and then seconds later Allott lobbed Low but the ball cleared the crossbar.

Ghaichem hit the outside of a post with a flicked shot on 67 minutes and a minute later Hinsley headed straight at Low following a Luke Jeffs corner.

In the 76th minute a long clearance from substitute Lee Stratford was missed by Luke Beatson and seized upon by Hinsley but Low blocked his left-footed shot with an outstretched leg.
