The Nailers continued their pre-season preparations with a comfortable four-goal victory over a Sheffield United XI at Christchurch Meadow, writes Joe Malone.

Manager Peter Duffield continued to experiment with his side, starting with new boys, Jordan Ball and Evan Garnett upfront.

This was a young Blades side which was neat and tidy in possession but lacked the physical presence necessary to battle against a good looking Belper side.

The first concerted action of the night resulted in a goal after just 8 minutes through left winger Rob Stevenson.

It was a goal to whet the appetite as Evan Garnett picked the ball up 30 yards from goal and spun well to knock the ball out to the left towards Jordan Ball.

Ball played a good pass into Rob Stevenson who got in behind his marker on the left inside the area and fired a shot which rose above the keeper and hit the back of the net in fine style.

Centre half Regan Edridge then had two good opportunities in the 14th minute.

The first coming from an Ian Ross corner which Edridge attacked well at the far post, only for his header to be blocked from close range, and his follow-up shot was blocked on the line by Joe Cheeseman.

Two minutes later another Ross corner was again met by Regan Edridge at the far post, and this time he made no mistake to power his header beyond Aaron Ramsdale.

Jordan Ball then had a good opportunity after Steve Warne intercepted a pass inside the opposition half, feeding Ball on the right angle, but his shot dragged wide of the far post.

Evan Garnett then found space and fizzed a good effort which arrowed towards the near post but Ramsdale watched it well and produced the save.

The final chance of the first half came for Ball, after good football by Garnett and Stevenson, but his low shot was again saved by Ramsdale.

The second half produced more chances than the first, as the Nailers provided good value for money on a sunny Friday night.

Ross had the first effort, with a shot gliding just wide of the left hand post, and then Ball missed a sitter from six yards, as Stevenson's squared ball took a bobble in front of Ball to agonisingly scoop over the bar.

Simon Harrison had an effort tipped over from the edge of the area, after a short corner routine between Stevenson and Garnett.

The Blades first effort than came on the hour mark, as a corner from the right was whipped towards the far post where Jake Wright rose to head the ball but his effort was well held by James Martin.

Further chances for Froggatt and Cole went begging, and another opportunity for United was missed, until a third goal for Belper ten minutes from time ensured a comfortable victory.

Aaron Cole produced a delicious cross from the right which Froggatt attacked well with the keeper which resulted in a spill by Ramsdale to set up Kieran Wells with a half volley from 10 yards which he controlled well and found the top corner.

Jon Froggatt then made it 4-0 on 86 minutes, after another Aaron Cole cross was met by Froggatt at the far post. Although his initial headed effort was deflected, Froggatt reacted quickest to strike the follow-up into the net.
