Player/manager Jon Froggatt, who is yet to recover from his neck injury, was able to welcome back Phil Watt to his side after his move back to the club late last week.
There was also a debut for midfielder Michael Towey, who also made the move from Grantham Town to the Marston’s Stadium.
The visitors struck first after 25 minutes following sloppy defending from Belper.
Phil Watt proved too casual in possession and had the ball taken from his feet deep inside his own half.
The resulting cross was cut out by Adams, but only cleared as far as Evan Key who delivered a cross to the far post for Ewerogba Akintunde and the tricky winger cut inside and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner.
The second half proved much the better of the two, with four goals scored and both sides upping the tempo.
After a short spell of pressure by the home side which saw Bruno Holden, Rob Stevenson and Chris Jones all miss good chances, Histon scored their second goal against the run of play after 53 minutes.
The ball was cleared long by the defender, into the path of Mick Freeman down the left.
Freeman then played in Ewerogba Akintunde who found a yard of space, opened up his body well and curled the ball into the far corner in fine style.
The Nailers soon came back to halve the deficit after 65 minutes.
Good work down the left hand side produced a throw-in in a dangerous area. Rob Stevenson picked up the ball and laid it back to Aaron Pride in space who played a first time cross in where Bruno Holden got in front of his marker to glance his header in to the far top corner.
Belper came within inches of an equaliser just a minute later, after a wonderful drag back by Holden into Evan Garnett’s path was worked well by the substitute, selling two defenders with neat dummies, only to poke the ball agonisingly past the near post.
Histon then produced a third goal eight minutes from time, with another strong break down the left side.
This time, the ball was worked close to the by-line, where Akintunde played the ball back to Mateusz Kuzinski on the edge of the box, to drill a low shot through the legs of the defender.
The Nailers then scored their final goal of the game deep in to stoppage time, proving too little too late, despite the wonder finish from Ashley Burbeary.
After a ball was crossed into the box from the right, the ball found its way out to Burbeary who then took a neat touch, and from 25 yards produced a thunderous curling effort into the top corner.
