Belper boss Jon Froggatt made two changes to his side that drew at home on Saturday, as Chris Jones and Michael Towey came into the starting eleven.
Belper made the better start with three decent efforts inside 12 minutes.
The first from Ashley Burbeary whose chip landed on the roof of the net, before Glyn Cotton and Liam Goulding both missed chances from range.
Robins' impressive midfielder Eli Bako saw a good effort rise just over after a volley from the edge of the box on the half hour mark.
Burbeary then smashed a volley wide from inside the box when a terrific cross by Chris Jones from the right saw the Belper striker connect sweetly, but he couldn't find a way past 'keeper Jordan Smith.
The second half saw a swing in the pendulum, as Ilkeston took the lead and took control of the game.
Luke Shaw had a strike from distance for the visitors which was destined for the top corner, but Scott Low was able to adjust his feet to make the save.
Burbeary also saw a good chance go begging. After staying onside down the right, he cut in inside and curled a left footed effort just wide of the far post.
The decisive goal then came on the 71st minute through the eager Michael Williams.
Substitute Ashley Hunter found space down the centre and played a square ball to the left to Williams who struck a vicious low effort which wrong-footed Scott Low, to find the back of the net.
Ilkeston then played good possession football, taking control of the remainder of the game as Belper were left chasing shadows as their enthusiasm drained away.
