A goal in either half was enough to give Matlock the win tonight at the Autoworld Arena.
A first half header from a trialist just before half time ensured The Gladiators took the lead going into the break, a late counter-attack secured the win as substitute Josh Batty cut inside and finished low past Belper's substitute goalkeeper Mark Rathbone.
It was a fairly even game throughout without either team creating many clear-cut chances, Matlock scored from their only dangerous set-piece whereas Belper did not take advantage of several good deliveries from skipper Laurie Wilson and left-back Connor Johnson.
Belper manager Jim Albans took the opportunity to get a better look at several players from the Under 21's side and a couple of trialists that have been with the squad throughout pre-season, it was a good run out for both teams as they look to develop their squads and keep building fitness levels for the start of the new season.
Belper Town further their preparations with another away tie at Borrowash Victoria on Saturday (15:00 kick-off) and Matlock Town host Football League outfit Sheffield United next Tuesday. (28/7/15, 19:30 kick-off)
