Evan Garnett’s second half strike was the difference between the two sides, he swept home substitute Kevin Hemagou’s cross fifteen minutes from time to secure the win.

Ben Fairclough was sent off for the Nailers with ten minutes to play, he collided with away goalkeeper Ashley Rawlins who came off worse from the challenge. After Rawlins had received a few minutes of treatment the referee called Fairclough over and brandished the red card.

Hemagou had only been on the pitch a couple of minutes when he set up Garnett for what was to be the winner, he replaced Tom Liversedge in the 71st minute.

Fairclough played the ball down the right channel and Hemagou beat his man and centered the ball for Garnett who squeezed the ball in at the near post.

The Nailers had the better of the chances throughout the game and in truth deserved the win, although ‘keeper and caretaker manager Danny Haystead made a couple of good saves to keep his clean sheet intact.

Tom Lowe missed the Gingerbread Men’s best chance of game when he volleyed over from two yards out, Michael O’Reilly’s deep cross had evaded the Belper defence five minutes before half-time.

Belper Town will now face Kings Lynn of the Evo-Stik Premier Division at the Marston’s Stadium in the next round, which will see the return of former Nailers favourite Lee Stevenson who now plies his trade for the Linnets.

Garnett could have got himself on the score sheet on the half an hour mark, Jonathan Williams’ free-kick was parried by Rawlins in the away goal but the goalscorer could only awkwardly scuff the ball wide.

On the stroke of half-time Belper bombarded the Market Drayton goal, Liversedge knocked down Fairclough’s cross to Michael Towey whose header was tipped over.

From the resulting corner Towey flicked the ball on for Captain Paul Lister, who volleyed the ball into the ground and again Rawlins in the Gingerbread Men’s goal had to tip the ball over.
