The first opportunity of the game fell to the Nailers after just 10 minutes. Right back Kyle Bryant made a fantastic run down the right hand side, going past his marker and cutting inside, however the shot with his weaker foot was easily handled by the Staveley goalkeeper.
The Nailers dominance continued, but they were finding it difficult to find an end product and to create a real chance for themselves.
Staveley also had a couple of chances themselves, the first of which coming when a corner was headed away by Phil Watt, but only as far as a Staveley forward on the edge of the box, but the attempt flew harmlessly over the crossbar.
The Nailers took the lead after 37 minutes, Eric Graves stole the ball away from the Staveley fullback and delivered an excellent cross into the box finding John Guy, who expertly volleyed the ball into the top right hand corner from 12 yards..
When the players returned to the field for the second half, Charlie Palmer had made a number of changes in order to give all of his squad the opportunity to impress him.
It was clear to see that a number of these players had not switched on quickly enough and began the half making number of errors, particularly in defence.
After Staveley's left winger eased past a number of Belper defenders, his shot was parried away by Danny Haystead, but the Nailers defenders failed to react to the loose ball and a Staveley forward knocked the ball into an empty net to equalise.
The newly introduced players eventually started to bed into the game after the mistake and they started to make it difficult for Staveley with fast paced pressure.
After 57 minutes, Jonathan Williams stepped up to take a free kick from 30 yards out, and his well struck shot found its way into the bottom left corner of the goal to put the Nailers ahead again.
This lead was extended after 69 minutes when a corner from Jonathan Williams found it’s way to substitute Rakheem Reid, whose header floated perfectly into the top right corner to make it 3-1 to the Nailers.
But the Nailers weren’t finished yet as Rakheem Reid used his pace to beat the Staveley full back to the ball, and put in a low cross aimed towards Jermaine Palmer. However, the cross was diverted into the net by a defender as he attempted to clear the ball.
