Manager Charlie Palmer gave all his players a run out on a sunny afternoon at the Marston’s Stadium, but the Nailers know that there will be tougher tests to come when the season kicks off in two weeks time.

Belper might of scored in the 3rd minute when Reuben Wiggins-Thomas found Alex Steadman with a short pass into space but Steadman’s first time effort was blocked.

Jonathan Williams tested Ally Lewis a few moments later and in the 8th minute he struck a free kick straight at the defensive wall.

Jermaine Hollis sent Alex Steadman away with a fine pass on 11 minutes and although he crossed to the feet of Reuben Wiggins-Thomas, the Belper striker couldn’t put the ball away.

Belper pressure paid off however on 16 minutes, when Wiggins-Thomas demonstrated good close control to set up Jonathan Williams who despatched a low shot pat the Coleshill ‘keeper.

The Nailers were 2 up on 21 minutes after a free kick from Williams was returned across the penalty area by Ross Parker for Rakheem Reid to blast into the net.

Belper impressed on 34 minutes when John Guy slipped the ball past the full back and whipped in a cross that Wiggins - Thomas headed just over the crossbar.

Coleshill had the first shot on target moments later when Aaron Garvey cut inside to hit a weak shot straight at Danny Haystead

Phil Watt might have done better with a 38th minute header from a corner kick, and this was proving to be a comfortable afternoon for the Nailers against their Midland Football League opponents.

The second half began with Coleshill spurning a great chance inside the first minute when Gio Dainty hit the ball high over the crossbar, however the Nailers were soon back on the front foot.

Belper hit a third on 57 minutes when Rackheem Reid and Dominic Alan combined down the right and the ball ended up in the net after Allen’s initial shot took a couple of deflections.

Belper dominated the ball and played attractive football at times and more goals looked on the cards.

Nialle Rodney’s run down the right flank set up Laurence Constable for an easy tap in at the far post on 70 minutes, and Constable assisted with Belper’s fifth goal three minutes later when Alex Steadman flicked the ball passed the ‘keeper and rolled the ball into the unguarded net.

Coleshill’s Jon Jones swung a left foot shot across the face of goal which clipped the far post and out to safety, but it was all Belper in the latter stages of the game and victory was never in doubt.

The Nailers face a Burton Albion team on Wednesday evening before travelling to the New Manor Ground on Saturday to play Evo Stik Premier Division side, Ilkeston FC.

Then the pre season programme finishes with the visit of Matlock Town on Tuesday 9th August and the winners will be the recipients of the Caroline Melbourne Trophy.
