The Nailers crash out of the Integro League Cup after late penalty denial prevents Belper from taking the game to penalties.

Evan Garnett was brought down in the penalty area with only minutes left in the game whilst his team were a goal down; but as attentions turned to the referee he waved away the appeals, much to the frustration of the Belper players.

Just after this controversial moment of the game; Chasetown went up the other end, making the most of Belper pushing for an equaliser and settled the game for themselves with a spectacular distant finish from Nathan Rooney.

The referee was clearly not afraid to point to the spot; as he had already pointed to the spot twice earlier in the game.

The first came after Alex Steadman made a good run into the box but was dragged to the ground before he could get his shot away.

Steadman stepped up to take the penalty and he gave his side a 1-0 lead after smashing his penalty to the keepers right.

The visitors got themselves a penalty of their own just before half time; however, Nathan Rooney couldn’t convert the penalty for his side as he smashed his effort against the crossbar.

Chasetown managed to take the lead in a space of five minutes which certainly will disappoint the Belper defenders.

Goals from James Dance and Michael Williams saw the visitors take a lead that they deserved with their much more impressive first half performance.

They then looked to have made their lead unassailable with 15 minutes to go as Jack Langston’s long range effort flew past Scott Low.

The Nailers pulled one back through second half substitute Ruben Wiggins-Thomas to restore hope for his side in the game.

But with Rooney putting his side 4-2 up in the 90th minute; the game was gone for the Nailers.

In the first half, the Nailers had opportunities to get themselves further in front whilst at 1-0 that they will certainly regret.

The biggest of which fell to Laurence Constable; the forward did well to find himself in space; but he couldn’t find the finish to bury the opposition further and possibly change the game for the Nailers.

Belper are now out of the Integro League Cup; meaning attentions now turn to the league in which the Nailers face Stocksbridge Park Steels next
