The Nailers suffered another Northern Premier League defeat in what has been a difficult start to the season, writes Joe Malone.

It was also a day that went from bad to worse as manager Peter Duffield tendered his resignation immediately after the game.

There were key changes made to the team as three new players lined up to start the game.

Central defenders Tom Burgin and Kieran Walker both came in to the team along with Jordan Nadat who started up front alongside Jon Froggatt.

The game began badly for Belper as new boy Burgin played a loose back pass to James Martin who tripped Liam Hardy inside the box, conceding a penalty.

However, Martin pulled off a brilliant save, getting down low to his right hand side to take the ball in his grasp.

Belper failed to heed the warning, failing to keep out the home side just two minutes later, as Buxton took the lead through Liam Hardy.

A corner from the right hand side was whipped in with pace and Hardy rose well to bullet his headed into the right hand corner despite a defender’s attempts to keep the ball out.

Steve Warne had Belper’s first shot of the game, coming from 30 yards, and rising high and wide and failing to trouble Arron Jameson in the home goal.

Tom Burgin had a decent opportunity to strike after the ball fell to him inside the box, only for his shot to be blocked well by his marker.

James Martin proved to be a first half hero for Belper as the ‘keeper pulled off three top-draw saves before half time to keep the Nailers in the game.

The first was a brilliant lunge to his left as Hardy aimed another header on goal from a Shaun Tuton cross and the next two came in quick succession as Hardy and Tuton both had good strikes cancelled out inside the box.

The second half proved a painful one for Belper as former Nailer Shaun Tuton strut his stuff, and all but destroyed the away side in a classy performance.

Buxton doubled their lead on the hour mark as a Tuton cross to the far post was headed back by substitute Mark Reed for Liam Hardy to find the net from close range.

It was soon 3-0 to the Bucks as Tuton ran riot again on 65 minutes. A good run on the right hand side to the by-line saw a cut back to Jamie Green, who fired in his volley to the far corner, with no hope for keeper’ Martin.

Belper got their goal on the 68th minute to attempt a similar comeback to the one they produced last week against Coalville. A good turn by Marrison on the left hand side produced a neat cross which Jon Froggatt attacked from six yards out, heading the ball beyond Jameson.

However, another moment of magic from Shaun Tuton on the 77th minute killed the game off as a samba-style turn on the right hand side took him away from two defenders to run through towards the penalty area.

Tuton then fired the ball across goal where substitute Mark Reed angled in the shot from close range, leaving the Nailers flat footed.

The final piece of the straw came with four minutes left to play as Alastair Taylor crossed low from the right hand side where Mark Reed drilled home an almost identical goal to his previous.
