The Nailers claimed their first win of the season under the temporary management of Jon Froggatt and Mark Ward, writes Joe Malone.

Following a difficult week on and off the pitch, the Nailers produced their best performance of the season by some distance to thrash their opponents by five clear goals.

Interim manager Jon Froggatt made changes to the teams’ system by adopting a 3-5-2 formation, which, with the return of Glyn Cotton to the club, worked perfectly

Ian Ross sat in front of the back four whilst captain, Steve Warne and Cotton were given the licence to move forward in a flexible midfield triangle.

The Nailers got off to a flying start, scoring their first goal on the 9th minute.

Jon Froggatt slipped the ball forward into the path of the advancing Cotton in to the opposing half and, after a first touch to control, Cotton curled an inch perfect pass to the left hand side where Rob Stevenson bore down on goal, cut inside on to his favourite right foot and drilled a low shot into the corner of the net beyond the reach of Sam Ramsbottom.

The second goal of the game came on the 27th minute after Belper had assumed complete control of the games’ proceedings.

The ball was worked out well to the right hand side where the menacing Aaron Cole did well to beat two men and move the ball towards the area. Cole’s cross was whipped low towards the far post, where Rob Stevenson got in front of his man to strike an almost identical goal to his first to double his tally for the day.

Two minutes later, the Nailers made it three with another well worked goal.

Once again, it was Aaron Cole causing the majority of the problems on the right hand side as he cut inside to beat two players and lay the ball off for Jon Froggatt to collect. Froggatt, on the right hand side inside the box opened his body up and curled an audacious effort over ‘keeper Ramsbottom.

It was soon to be dreamland for Belper as they went on to score their fourth goal after just 31 minutes. This was perhaps the pick of the bunch and hopefully provided a good insight to the type of football hoped for under Jon Froggatt and Mark Ward.

Following a sharp interchange of passes, Ian Ross turned well with the ball and drove a precise through pass in to the path of Jon Froggatt, who struck an early effort from the edge of the box to fire the ball in to the far corner of the net.

The second half of the game was played a slightly lesser tempo, however control was still in the hands of the Nailers.

Striker Bruno Holden came on to make his debut with just over 20 minutes left of play and helped himself to a goal to round off a perfect day.

Again, Aaron Cole was heavily involved in the move as he curled the ball in with his left foot towards the back post, where Holden rose above his defender to head the ball down, and then picked up the second ball which he fired inside the near post.
