The Nailers came within minutes of a vital point away at Skelmersdale United, writes Joe Malone.

Interim manage, Jon Froggatt made only one change to the team that won at home on Saturday, as Kieran Walker came into the back three in place of the injured Tom Burgin.

Following praise earned for the Nailers style of football on Saturday, the team continued to show bravery and confidence on the ball throughout the game.

The yellows had the better chances in the first half, with Jon Froggatt coming close on three occasions.

The first of those chances came after just three minutes, when Jordan Nadat played a neat through ball for Froggatt, who drove in from the left to fire a right footed shot that goalkeeper Martin Fearon saved with an outstretched boot.

Glyn Cotton had an effort well saved after 22 minutes, after excellent pressure from Belper saw them win the ball high up the field, and feed the ball into Cotton for a shot from 25 yards.

The home side then came close on 33 minutes, after the ball was slipped in to Connor McCarthy on the left hand side; his shot was drilled low across goal where James Martin pulled off a fine save, pushing the ball away from danger.

The normally reliable Froggatt spurned two chances to give the Nailers a deserved half time lead.

First, he shout high and wide after being played through the home defence and then the Nailers striker turned well inside the box only to see he low shot miss the far upright by inches,

The second half went on to produce three goals and a red card, in an action packed final third of the game.

The first goal came for Belper Town after 51 minutes.

A good break by the Nailers led to a foul on the edge of the box by the home side, earning Belper a free kick on the edge of the box. Ian Ross (pictured) took range and curled a brilliant effort into the near corner, leaving 'keeper Fearon flat footed.

United forward Danny Mitchley saw a wonderful chance go begging on the 68th minute, following a good cross from the right hand side by Josh Sumner.

The ball was whipped in with devilish pace and Mitchley got in front of his marker to power a header inches over the bar from 6 yards.

The Nailers had a chance to make it two on the 70th minute. A short corner by Ross to Rob Stevenson, saw the latter bend a good cross in for Kieran Walker to strike a powerful volley which fizzed a foot wide of the right hand post.

Then, after a period of pressure, United got their goal nine minutes from time.

Substitute Mark Byrne picked the ball up on the right hand side and struck a shot with pace that hit Ian Ross on the way through to deflect painfully away from James Martin.

United thn got their winner three minutes from time.

A free kick by the right corner flag was drilled in by Aiden Kirkbride, where substitute, Jack Owen attacked the ball with his head to bullet his effort into the roof of the net, and win the game for Skelmersdale.

Aaron Cole saw a late red card for a cynical kick out on Daniel Wisdom but the performance of the team overall was one to be proud of for the Nailers.
