Caretaker manager Jon Froggatt made changes to his side that lost three days earlier, with Scott Slater, a recent signing from Belper United, making his debut for the Nailers as part of a back three.
The game began in the worst possible start for Belper, conceding a penalty in the 3rd minute after Slater was harshly adjudged to have fouled Jon Stevenson inside the box.
Unusually, goalkeeper Liam Castle stepped up to take the penalty for the visitors, and made no mistake after smashing the ball in to the bottom left corner, sending Scott Low the wrong way.
The Nailers responded well, and Glyn Cotton’s first time pass out to Rob Stevenson sent the winger away down the left hand side. Stevenson then cut inside and lashed a fierce drive across the face of the goal, but to no avail.
The Nailers got back on level terms on the half hour mark, after a wonderful individual goal by Evan Garnett.
Garnett received the ball under pressure, twisting his way through the tackles and beating three players before slotting the ball across ‘keeper Liam Castle into the far corner.
Barwell came close to regaining the lead just three minutes later, as a corner from the left was swung in for Anthony Carney, whose downwards header was tipped away brilliantly on the line by Scott Low.
Scott Slater then came to the Nailers rescue after clearing the ball off the line from Jon Stevenson’s chip over Low.
Belper took the lead after 63 minutes through Bruno Holden. A long ball was played low down field and Holden won the race to latch on to the ball before slotting the ball into the net with the outside of his foot.
However, after sustained pressure Barwell secured their equaliser after the 70 minutes.
A cross from the left hand side resulted in a poor defensive headed clearance that saw the ball run kindly for Callum Woodward 20 yards from goal, whose side footed strike took a harsh deflection to leave Scott Low flat-footed.
Belper continued to press for a third goal, and the dangerous Rob Stevenson once again came close. Slipping inside his marker, Stevenson drove towards the edge of the box and struck a low effort which was tipped away well by Castle at his near post.
A final opportunity came for Bruno Holden with ten minutes remaining, with the striker unable to find his second goal of the game.
Steve Warne drove a low cross from the left hand side, where Holden took a classy touch to lift the ball into his path, and striking a low volley low which edged inches outside the near post.
