The Nailers earned their first victory since November with this 2-1 success against Halesowen Town, just three days after suffering relegation.

Phil Watt and Laurie Wilson came back into the side after serving a two game suspension, meaning Jonathan Williams and Matt Varley started from the bench.

The visitors created the brighter chances of the first half with Tom Tonks coming close from the edge of the box after just four minutes.

Nabil Shariff had an opportunity just a minute later when the ball fell to him inside the box after Rob Stevenson set him up, only for his shot to blocked well by the defender.

Tonks then had his side’s best chance of the game after 15 minutes.

Ben Haseley worked his way into the penalty and laid the ball back to Tonks on the penalty spot in oceans I space, but his low side-footed effort flew inches wide of the left hand post.

Ben Turner came close after the half hour mark after a wonderful searching pass by Wilson found Turner on the right hand side.

The wing back cut inside and beat two players, before drilling his shot half a yard over the bar from just inside the box.

The Nailers got their goal on the 41st minute through the red-hot Nabil Shariff.

Stevenson found possession on the right hand side and slipped in Steve Warne who ran beyond him and dinked a cross to the back post which was headed out by the defender.

But the ball fell to Shariff who took one touch to control, before tearing his shot in to the left hand corner, beyond the reach of Matt Sargeant.

Iyesden Christie saw his header cleared off the line by Paul Lister just two minutes before the break, to ensure that the Nailers held onto their lead at the half way point.

The second half began with neither side able to take a hold of the game, until the 63rd minute, when the Nailers scored their second goal.

Again Laurie Wilson was at the heart of it as his diagonal ball from right to left found the man-of-the-match Rob Stevenson.

Stevenson then skinned his marker and worked his way to the by-line before drilling in a low cross towards the back post, where Ben Turner arrived to slide the ball in from close range.

The game then opened up for a final grandstand 20 minutes.

Christie and Haseley both came close for Halesowen, while Stevenson continued to run the show going forward for Belper, as he saw an effort get tipped inches wide by impressive Halesowen 'keeper, Sargeant.

The visitors did strike back to half the deficit in added time, as Kristian Green's turn and shot inside the box found the bottom left corner.

But even against the vulnerable Nailers, it proved too little too late to rescue a point from the game.
