The Nailers slumped to a three-goal defeat at the hands of Workington at Borough Park, writes Joe Malone.

Player/manager Jon Froggatt made a number of changes to his side after a seven-day break from competitive action.

Liam Goulding came in to replace the suspended Phil Watt whilst Steve Warne returned to the side following injury, replacing Glyn Cotton who dropped to the bench.

Froggatt was also able to name himself on the bench after recovering from a neck injury and assistant manager Mark Ward was also added to the subs bench along with goalkeeper Dave Ratcliffe.

Belper defended well in the first period against the wind, only to concede a goal three minutes into added time at the end of the opening 45 minutes.

Matty Tymon won a 50-50 challenge with Liam Goulding deep inside the Nailers half, and the former Hartlepool striker produced neat skill by fending off two challenges to rifle his shot into the back of the net beyond ‘keeper James Martin.

Belper then came out in the second with a point to prove but found themselves two goals down just seven minutes into the restart.

Again it was Matty Tymon who netted for Workington to double the home side's lead.

This time with his left foot and from similar range to the first, the striker made no mistake as he drilled home the finish to leave the Nailers facing a mountain to climb.

James Martin then continued his good form in his early Belper career by pulling off several good saves from Tymon, Conor Tinnion and Alex Newby.

The arrival of Jon Froggatt and Mark Ward proved positive for the visitors as they began to hold the ball up with more control in their attempts to get back into the game.

Steve Warne then saw a shot that looked destined for the back of the net well saved by Reds ‘keeper Jonny Jamieson who scooped the ball wide, much to Belper’s disbelief.

Workington then killed the game in stoppage time after catching the Nailers on the break.

Joe Mwasile found himself through on goal and delicately chipped Martin from range to make it 3-0 to the Cumbrian side.
