The Nailers conceded a late equaliser over fellow strugglers Marine FC, in this season's first 'six pointer' encounter, writes Joe Malone.

Jon Froggatt made a number of changes to the team that lost against Nantwich last Saturday, with Matt Varley, Rob Stevenson and Bruno Holden all coming in to the starting line-up.

The last time these two teams met, in the old UniBond Presidents Cup, Marine were victorious on that occasion and leaving the Nailers frustrated at missed opportunities.

This game began with the Nailers pressing high and creating a good early opening after five minutes.

Ian Ross played a sweeping ball from left to right releasing Cotton on the flank who then cut inside and slipped the ball to Steve Warne, who in turn laid the ball on for Liam Goulding on the byline to fire a cross in.

Rob Stevenson got on the end of the cross, but could only head the ball over from 8 yards as he edged in front of his marker.

Stevenson was on target again before the half hour mark, cutting inside from the left and drilling a shot low on target, where Matthew Cooper made a comfortable save.
It was the visitors who took the lead after a blistering break following a Belper set piece on the 37th minute.

Ian Ross delivered a free kick into the box where Glyn Cotton's effort was blocked well by the defender who set his side up for the break as Belper found themselves outnumbered.

Lewis Codling bore down on goal to the right hand side, before playing a square ball for Christian Langos, who tucked a neat finish into the bottom right corner beyond James Martin.

The Nailers found an equaliser on the stroke of half time through the inspiring Ashley Burbeary.

Cotton played the ball to Burbeary, 25 yards from goal, who then took a terrific first touch to turn the defender leaving him in his wake, before opening his body up to place a a brilliant effort from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

The second half threatened to boil over after Stephen Wainwright's punch on Phil Watt inside the Marine penalty area went unnoticed by any of the officials, with the defender lucky to escape a straight red card.

Belper had further chances to score through efforts from Burbeary and Cotton from inside the box, with both efforts failing to find the target.

The home side eventually took the lead with eight minutes of normal time remaining.

Ian Ross delivered a good corner from the left, Richard Adams drove in to smash his header in to the top corner, scoring his first goal since his return to the club from Goole.

Marine were able to snatch a late goal on the 88th minute to ensure they went away with a point.

This time, Joel Bembo-Leta brought the ball out from the back and played a chipped ball in to the path of substitute James Foley, who tucked in behind two defenders who seemingly switched off, to lob the on-rushing Martin.

Belper Town: Martin, Goulding, Varley, Ross, Watt, Adams, Burbeary, Warne, Holden (Froggatt 74), Cotton, Stevenson. Subs: James, Jones, Towey, Ratcliffe.

Marine: Cooper, Wainwright, Lea, Hessey, Benbow-Leta, Claire, Owens (Foley 74), Goulding, Codling (Fearnehough 55), Conchie, Langos. Subs: Nicholas, Willisms, Mitchison.
