The Nailers conceded a late equaliser with the final kick of the match to lose out on a vital three points at Trafford, writes Joe Malone.

Belper boss, Jon Froggatt was forced to reshuffle his side with a number of absentees to key players.

Matt Varley came in at left back with Liam Goulding switching to right back, whilst Aaron Pride started in a wide right midfield role.

The Nailers started the better side and dominated the majority of the game.

The first chance came after 8 minutes when Belper pressed Trafford high up the field. Jon Froggatt fed Michel Towey in the left channel before the Nailers midfielder skinned his marker and left the goalkeeper in no-man’s land, only to see his shot spectacularly cleared off the line by Nia Bayunu.

Froggatt then had another effort saved well from inside the box following a corner kick.

However, it was the home side who took the lead against the run of play on the 21st minute.

Steve Mason picked up possession deep inside his own half and sprayed a lovely pass with the outside of his right foot to send Shelton Payne on his way.

Payne progressed twenty yards down the pitch before cutting inside to take on Matt Varley and Phil Watt, before hammering in a left-footed shot in to the bottom right corner.

Belper continued to create chances, with Rob Stevenson volleying over and Bruno Holden forcing a save out of Tom Read with a back post header.

Trafford grew into the game again as Rory Fallon created his side’s second chance of the game after 37 minutes.

Fallon picked up possession on the left side and cut in to drill a low shot towards the near corner, only for James Martin to tip the ball away for a corner kick.

Directly from the corner, Fallon curled the ball to the edge of the box where Luke Heron drove his volley landing just wide of the post.

A final chance of the half came for Froggatt after Watt drove a header back in to the box, where the Nailers player/manager lashed a low volley on target, only for Read to make a smart save to deny him.

The second half produced three late goals in a grandstand finish to the game.

The Nailers struck their equaliser on the 77th minute through the ever-reliable Jon Froggatt.

Matt Varley won a challenge high in the Trafford half and played the ball to Froggatt on the edge of the box. Froggatt then turned well on to his left foot and curled an effortless strike in to the bottom corner.

Belper then thought they smashed home the winner in the 91st minute through a wonder goal from substitute Glyn Cotton after a spell of late pressure from the Nailers.

Cotton picked the ball up on the left and turned inside and from 25 yards he lashed in an unexpected effort to the top corner which left the goal frame shaking, and the goalkeeper standing, to spark jubilant scenes in the away supporters.

However, for a second week running, Belper conceded a late goal to squander three points, this time with the final kick of the game.

Trafford won a throw-in on the left hand side high in the Belper half. As the ball was sent in, the home side were the first to react and the ball dropped for Luke Heron who fired in the equaliser to earn his side an unexpected point and deflate the Nailers hopes of easing their way off the foot of the table.
