The Nailers returned to league action after getting knocked out of both the Emirates F.A Cup and the Doodson Integro League in the last week, the home side certainly had the opportunities to win the game and manager Jim Albans can be pleased with his side keeping a clean sheet.

Belper’s new signing Kevin Hemagou, who signed from Dunkirk yesterday, had a couple of clear openings in the first half but failed to take advantage of either opportunity.

Notably on the half-hour mark he shrugged off a couple of defenders and slotted the ball past the Chasetown ‘keeper only to see Lee Butler on the cover to clear his effort off of the line.

Evan Garnett, who had another new strike partner for today’s game, did his best to create for the Nailers but his efforts were redundant, his best chance of the game was blocked away by Chasetown’s ‘keeper John Bateman mid-way through the first half.

Jonathan Gould hit the bar for the Scholars in the opening ten minutes, he cut inside and smashed the ball towards goal but Haystead’s finger tips denied Chasetown opening the scoring.

Stan Mugisha had the away sides best chance of the game, just after half-time he collected a flick-on and was clean through on goal, but he could only scuff the ball towards goal and Nailer’s ‘keeper Danny Haystead had the easiest task of all to bring the ball under his clutches.

Grant Ryan replaced Rob Stevenson with five minutes to go as he as now served his three game ban, but fellow forward Tom Liversedge was still unavailable with an ankle injury.

Chasetown centre-half Francino Francis, who has played in the Football League for Watford, impressed throughout and Hemagou was in for a battle on his Nailers debut.

All in all a game that is not going to last long in the memory but Belper can be happy with their first clean sheet of September.
