New signings Eric Graves and Ross Parker came straight into the starting eleven with the former captaining the Nailers.
Graves has joined from league rivals Coalville Town for his second spell at the Marston’s Stadium whilst centre-half Parker has followed Charlie Palmer from Long Eaton United as the Nailers manager starts to build his own side.
The impressive Courtney Grantham had a big hand in both first half goals.
Ten minutes in he crossed the ball to Eugen Bopp, who showed great composure to round Nailers ‘keeper Danny Haystead and square the ball to the grateful Anderson, who tapped into the unguarded net.
Basford had the chance to add to their tally when Billy Bennett’s left sided free-kick was tipped away by Haystead, and Grantham could only awkwardly turn the ball wide from a tight angle.
Minutes before half-time Grantham were at it again. He won the ball off of Haydn Goddard, skipped past Ross Parker and squared the ball for Wiggins-Thomas who rolled the ball into the bottom corner to double the home side’s lead.
Belper boss Palmer, made a double substitution at half-time in a bid to get his side back in the game, bringing on Kevin Hemagou and Yuyi Kabanje in place of Isaac Minott and Haydn Goddard.
Wiggins-Thomas got his second and Basford’s third goal 20 minutes from time
The former Nailers front man spun Phil Watt on the halfway line and found himself clean through on goal. As he bore down on goal, Haystead raced out but was helpless as Wiggins-Thomas slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Belper’s best chance of the game fell to Evan Garnett, he collected a clipped through ball from Lee Cooksey but could only smash the ball wide on the half-volley.
Graves had a chance to get on the score sheet on his second debut for the club but his glancing header from Rob Stevenson’s cross went just over the bar ten minutes from the end.
