Evan Garnett’s hat-trick secures a vital win for the Nailers

Two goals in the first half and one in the second for Garnett secured the points for the Nailers, despite a premature come back from the home side.

The Belper forward has been a subject of interest from other clubs this week and he justified the speculation just before the half-hour mark when he opened the scoring.

Rob Stevenson picked the pocket of Garfield Robinson and drove towards goal, he slipped Garnett through down the right channel and he slotted the ball in at the near post.

His second came just five minutes after, Nailers captain Eric Graves left footed strike was blocked by Chasetown ‘keeper John Bateman but Garnett was not to be denied, smashing the rebound into the roof of the net.

Chasetown got themselves back into the game just before the hour mark, Belper failed to clear a George Washbourne free-kick and the ball fell to full-back Rhys Thompson, who drove the ball low past Danny Haystead to give his side a lifeline.

Garnett sealed his hat-trick and settled any Nailers nerves ten minutes before time, Alex Steadman showed good awareness to play in Graves who selflessly squared the ball to the goalscorer to cap off a fruitful afternoon.

The home side were gifted a chance back into the game when Phil Watt felled substitute Nichloas Turton just inside the box, James Dance could not take advantage smashing the ball over the bar from the penalty spot.

The hosts will feel aggrieved they did not take advantage of the opening twenty minutes as they came out the better side, Stan Mugisha slipped in forward Ryan Wynter who could only pull wide the first chance of the game.

Wynter had another chance from a corner half way through the first half but his effort was cleared off the line by Dom Allen.

Mugisha had a chance himself to equalise for the hosts, centre-half Francino Francis headed the ball down to him but he curled the ball just over the bar.
