Goals from Alex Steadman and Laurence Constable secured a first win six for Nailers

Alex Steadman opened the scoring for the Nailers midway through the first-half, he beat Leek ‘keeper Chris Martin to Jonathan Williams’ long ball, rounded him and rolled the ball into the empty goal.

The points were made safe in stoppage time at the end of the game when substitute Laurence Constable curled in a wonderful effort from just inside the box, with virtually the last kick of the game.

It was a game of very few clear cut chances in truth but the Nailers were given a late scare, Danny Haystead made a brilliant save from Lee Cropper before Eric Graves cleared the ball from danger just before Constable doubled the lead.

The hosts best chance was squandered by Rob Stevenson when he nipped in behind the Leek defence, with Steadman and Bradley Wells waiting in the middle he skewed his centre high and wide of the Martin’s goal.

It was Belper’s first win in six games with their last victory coming against Romulus almost a month ago to the day, also when they recorded their last clean sheet.

The Nailers were without the suspended Phil Watt and Gerome Palmer so Ross Parker partnered Jack O’Brien to form another new pairing at the heart of Belper Town’s defence.

Steadman’s first-half strike was his 19th of the season to overtake Evan Garnett, who managed 18 before his January move to Kidderminster, as the Nailers top scorer for the 2015/16 season.

Belper are back in action at The Marston’s Stadium as early as Saturday 16th as they welcome Market Drayton Town.

Charlie Palmer’s men will be looking to build on tonight’s victory as they prepare for the Derbyshire Senior Cup final, when they face Alfreton Town on 26th April.
