They faced Newcastle Town, another side who had opened their season by collecting 3 points, but they started this game in the worst way possible.
Eight minutes into the game, Newcastle put in a low cross from the right hand side which fell to the feet of Kyle Bryant who failed to deal with it and striker Lee Cropper finished easlily from close range.
This poor start soon got even worse. Just 3 minutes later, good passing play from the visitors manoeuvred the ball into the Belper Town penalty area. An intial shot was saved well by Danny Haystead, but he could only parry it as far as Jordan Cole who tapped into the empty net.
The Nailers got themselves back into the game 4 minutes later. Matt Richards put in an excellent cross from the left hand side that found Phil Watt, whose shot was directed straight at the goalkeeper Aaron Dillon who fumbled the ball over the goal line.
Newcastle went on to control much of the first half and asked the Nailers defence a multitude of questions.
Most of the problems came from Newcastle right back Sam Bradbury, whose long diagonal balls forward created a lot of trouble and opened up the Belper defence on a number of occasions.
The Nailers came close to levelling the score just before the break. Jonathan Williams fired in a good corner towards Phil Watt, who got a good connection with his header which dropped onto the crossbar and over.
Belper conceded another goal early In the second half when another long diagonal cross came in from the left, which found Chris Baker who curled his header perfectly over Danny Haystead and extend the lead for the visitors.
Belper pushed hard to get back into the game for the remainder of the half.
But, the closest they came to getting themselves back into the game was through Jonathan Williams after Ruben Wiggins-Thomas put in a fantastic cross but his volley struck the underside of the crossbar and then bounced away to safety.
