A lacklustre display sees the Nailers lose to Market Drayton Town

Belper Town's latest defeat against Market Drayton last Saturday, their 6th in 7 league outings suggests that a recovery under new manager Aaron Webster is still some way off, Writes Nigel Oldrini.

The visitors have had a torrid time themselves lately and this game represented a great opportunity for Webster to record his first home league victory.

With Alex Steadman nursing a hamstring injury, Leandro Browne came back into the side, and for the first 10 minutes or so, the Nailers looked as though they meant business.

Kieran O'Connell was involved in most things during this period and he and Haydn Goddard set up an opportunity for Jahvan Davidson-Miller in the 12th minute who miss-hit his shot on goal.

Ill luck struck the Nailers though on 14 minutes when John Guy turned a Joe Cuff cross from the left into his own net and put the Nailers on the back foot when they hadn't deserved it.

Belper's early intensity tailed off a little but they were back on level terms on 22 minutes after Leandro Brown was tripped in the penalty area and Kieran O'Connell took the responsibility of converting the spot kick.

For a while Market Drayton let the Nailers come on to them and on 25 minutes Lee Williamson let fly an effort from 25 yards that was saved by Drayton's 'keeper Ash Rawlings.

Jahvan Davidson-Miller hit an opportunity over the bar on 36 minutes, but after this Belper's dominance began to wane as the Gingerbreadmen began to find their feet.

Danny Roberts prevented a deficit at the break when he dived at full stretch to save Stefan Walker's drive just before the half time whistle.
The second period was essentially one of struggle for Belper who failed to show the drive and enthusiasm that was required to take charge against a Market Drayton side whose confidence increased as they saw the potential of a rare victory.

The visitors dominated the early stages with Roberts having to intercept the ball to prevent Joe Cuff scoring. Lee Williamson struck a shot over the bar for Belper moments later and Dylan Garnett made space for a shot, but couldn't finish properly.

Leandro Browne hit a low shot safely collected by the 'keeper, and despite these tame efforts from Belper it was the Gingerbreadmen who continued to show more initiative.

On 66 minutes the visitors were handed their chance to regain the lead when the referee spotted an infringement as a number of players collided in the penalty area, and he awarded a spot kick that brought little reaction from the Belper.

Joe Cuff gave Danny Roberts no chance with the penalty kick and everyone looked to the Belper players to step up and save the game.

Sadly this never looked like happening as they appeared to accept that another defeat was looming and in fact only Danny Roberts prevented further embarrassment when he pushed over a Dan Beddons header on 82 minutes.

Unfortunately this was another low par performance that seems to becoming the norm rather than the exception at the moment.
